Black Women’s History Movie Night Spotlight
Facilitator: Sis. Imelda Price
Come and join us for a viewing of “Betty and Coretta” focusing on the extraordinary women behind the two men who would change history, “Betty & Coretta” tells the similar true stories of Coretta Scott King, wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (Malik Yoba), and Dr. Betty Shabazz, wife of Malcolm X. When their husbands were tragically assassinated, these two women not only inherited the mantle of the civil rights movement in America, each also found herself to be a single mother who had to find a way to raise and support her children with no husband or father, resulting in a relationship like no other that spanned more than three decades. Enjoy some popcorn and stick around for a brief discussion.
This movie night will begin a class series on great Black women in history.

Hip-Hop Music and The Justice System

Instructors: Sis. Sonja Spears and Rev. Alicia Johnson
Tuesdays, August 5 and 12 from 6:30-8:00pm

Come and lend your point of view or expertise on the trend of using rap music against defendants in court with two non-expert but interested discussion leaders.

Savior, Sex and Scripture
Instructors: Rev. Alicia Johnson and Deacon Peter Goddard
Thursdays, August 7, 14, 21, 28 from 6:30-8:00pm
In this course, we will examine how sex, sexuality and gender issues play out in the lives of Christians. We will explore the question of whether there is a sexual ethic in the Bible and what it may be. Through readings and film, we hope to gain a fuller understanding of how these concepts influence how we view ourselves and others. Participants are welcomed to bring their questions as instructors will try to tailor some discussion around them through the course.
