Outreach & Missions Ministry

“The Gospel encourages us to give not always out of our wealth, but of what we have. Often times we find we have more riches than we can even contain.” – Rev. June Cooper

The Outreach Ministry seeks to demonstrate Christian love through actions and activities that relieve suffering and improve the quality of life.  This ministry reaches out to our and other surrounding communities in simple and practical ways to demonstrate the radically inclusive love of God.

CITY MISSION SOCIETY INITIATIVE

Myrtle has had a longstanding affiliation with City Mission Society. We have supported them financially for several years. Now, as we apply Spiritual Philanthropy as our focus of this year, we wanted to find a vehicle for our members to give to others in the community. This organization is closely aligned with our church mission of Reaching Up, Reaching Out and Reaching Within. City Mission’s services reach approximately 35,000 people each year, both directly and through the volunteer efforts that CMS directs. CMS’s purpose is to meet the educational, economic, social, and advocacy needs of impoverished residents in Boston neighborhoods. CMS partners with congregations and community agencies to fulfill its dynamic vision of providing services in the context of empowering residents to be active participants in changing their neighborhoods and their lives.

KENYA CHILDREN’S FUND

Myrtle Baptist Church has been involved with the Kenya Children’s Fund (KCF) for several years. In an effort to commemorate the outstanding achievements of the first graduating class of the Kinyago-Dandora Secondary School (KDSS), KCF made a decision to recognize these pioneering seniors by inviting supporters/sponsors to attend the commencement activities in 2010 — despite high school graduations not typically celebrated in Kenya.

The Missions group is currently sponsoring another child in the Primary school division of Kinyago-Dandora.
