Purchase Of Property at 20 Curve Street

In 1960 Myrtle purchased the home at 20 Curve Street, across the street from the church. After extensive repairs the house served as a parish house for two of Myrtle’s pastors Rev. Pulley and family and Rev. Littlejohn and family (it is now used as rental property). Because the church was not incorporated at the time, a trust was created whereby the Pastor, Rev. Louis E. Ford and two members (who were officers of the church) Deacon James Spikes and Chester Lomax purchased the property, not in their personal capacities, but rather on behalf of the church and for its benefit.

They secured a mortgage in that same capacity to finance the purchase. The original 1960 deed and mortgage represent these transactions. After the church was incorporated in 1963 the three trustees sold the house back to the church for a “nominal” sum and from that time on till the creation of Myrtle Village, the property remained in the hands of the church.
